Zesco United on Wednesday shifted into second place on the FAZ Super Division table following a 2-0 home win over Red Arrows in a rescheduled Week 4 match.
The victory was Zesco’s third on the trot over Arrows following back-to-back league wins over the Air Men from Lusaka in the 2015 season.
Goals from Jackson Mwanza and Jesse Were catapulted Zesco from third to second, exchanging places with Nkana on goal difference.
Mwanza put Zesco ahead in the 17th minute when he headed-in the ball off a Were set-piece to send the defending champions 1-0 into the break.
Were them punished Daniel Munyao for some sloppy goalkeeping in the 47th minute when he stole the ball off the Zambia second choice to fire in his effort from a tight angle on the near post.
His goal saw the Kenyan striker breakaway at the summit of the top scorers chart on eleven goals this season, one more than Nkana’s Walter Bwalya.
Zesco have 31 points from fourteen games with three matches in hand and are now nine points behind leaders Zanaco.
The defending champions could cut that lead to six points this Saturday when they host Green Buffaloes in a rescheduled Week 14 game at the same venue.
