Assistant coach Tenant Chembo says Zesco United is ready to prove they can match the best in Group A of the 2016 CAF Champions League.

Zesco is among illustrious company in Group A that also includes 1998 champions ASEC Mimosa of Cote d’Ivoire and Wydad Casablanca of Morocco who won the title in 1992.

Topping the roll in Group A are record eight-time champions Al Ahly of Egypt.

“It is a very good test,” Chembo said.

“Those team’s are experienced in CAF competition but don’t forget Zesco has played in the group stage and we have played them before.”

Zesco are especially familiar with Al Ahly whom they met in the last 16 of the 2011 edition of the same competition drawing 0-0 in Ndola before the record champions advanced to the group stage thanks to a 1-0 home win in Cairo.

And Al Ahly will also be Zesco’s first opponent on June 18 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

“It is going to be interesting but when you want to be the best you have to play the best we are ready for the task ahead of us,” Chembo said.

“We just have to play our cards right. We know what is at stake playing at home and we will go for it and show the same character we displayed on our way to qualifying to the group stage.”

This is Zesco’s second campaign in the Champions League group stage after becoming the first Zambian club to do so in 2009.

Zesco has set another milestone in continental competition by becoming the only Zambian club to qualify to the group stage of a CAF club cup tournament twice.
