Zesco United sustained their first 2016 CAF Champions League Group A defeat after losing to Wydad Casablanca on Tuesday evening away in Rabat.
The Zambian champions lost 2-0 at Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah to fall from 1st to 3rd place in Group A at the end of match-day two of this years league phase of the competition.
Zesco made a flying start in a ferocious first ten minutes against their Moroccan hosts.
However, Wydad sneaked in the opener in the 13th minute when Walid Karti nodded-in the ball on the near post after some good work by Ismail El Haddad.
Zesco then had two great opportunities go begging before the break through John Chingandu and Anthony Agay in the 33rd and 43rd minutes respectively.
Wydad added the final goal in the 52nd minute through a David Owino own-goal as he battled to clear Reda Hajhouj’s shot.
Zesco stay on 3 points, tied with ASEC Mimosa who are now second on goal difference following Tuesday’s 2-1 away win over lasted placed Al Ahly in Alexandria who have zero points.
Wydad have maximum 6 points from two rounds of matches played.
Meanwhile, Zesco face ASEC at home in July 16 in a battle for second place over two legs before visiting the Cote d’Ivoire champions on July 20 in Abidjan.
