Zesco United opened the 40 point bracket at the top of the FAZ Super
Division table on Sunday after a 1-0 away  win over Nchanga  Rangers
at Konkola  Stadium in  Chililabombwe.
The  victory is a welcome development after losing  2-1  last Thursday
at home against Lusaka Dynamos  that saw  Zesco suffer its third
league defeat  of the season just four days  after going to the top of
the table.
It wasn’t easy going against a plucky Nchanga  who looked determined
but Zesco’s experience reigned  over Nchanga’s persistence.
Jesse  Were  had the first real  opportunity on  goal  when he tested
Nchanga goalkeeper Sebastian Mwenge in the 4th minute but  his tame
effort was saved.
The game’s lone goal came eight minutes later when Jackson Mwanza
slotted in a  cross from Dave  Daka that Mwenge failed to deal with
the initial delivery.
But Zesco had goalkeeper Jacob  Banda too thanks for shutting- out
Nchanga who superbly parried  Kasonde Bwalya left footed shot in the
39th minute.
Banda was again called into action  in the 57th minute when  he denid
Samson Mubanga’s shot.
Nchanga, though, did manage to get  the ball behind  the net but Adams
Zikiru’ 68th minute header  was ruled out for offside.
Meanwhile,Sunday’s away win is a  massive boost for  Zesco who have a
big home date against Nkana this  Wednesday.
Zesco have  41 points from  19 games with three matches in hand  while
Lusaka Dynamos are second  on 39 points.
