Ten-man Zesco United were held to a 1-1 home draw by Green Buffaloes in a rescheduled Week 14 fixture at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
The result denied Zesco an opportunity to move within six points of leaders Zanaco on 32 and 40 points from 15 and 17 matches played respectively.
Zesco took a 1-0 halftime lead through Jackson Mwanza who fired in from range to beat Green Buffaloes goalkeeper Fred Silwamba.
Buffaloes then failed to equalize in the 63rd minute when Christopher Katongo sent his penalty kick onto the post but his rebound was ruled offside.
Twelve minutes later, Zesco suffered a setback when Kenya international midfielder Anthony Agay was sent-off when he reacted to a tackle from Mumbi Mweene.
Buffaloes then pounced with the equalizer in the 82nd minute when Brian Mwila headed-in Allan Mukuka’s cross to see the two sides’ share the points.
Zesco edge forward slightly on 32 points, one more than third placed Nkana and three ahead of fourth positioned Buffaloes.
The defending FAZ Super Division champions are now just eight points behind leaders Zanaco from 15 and 17 games played respectively.
However, Zesco could move within five points of Zanaco this Tuesday if they can beat Mufulira Wanderers in a rescheduled Week 16 match at Levy.
