Zesco United are the new leaders of the 2017 FAZ Super Division
following a 1-0 away win over the ‘Sweet Boys’ Nakambala Leopards in
Zlatko Krmpotic’s side moved two points clear on 9 points, rising from
second place to exchange places with Lumwana Radiants.
However, Nakambala made a flying start led by their livewire
midfielder Brima Kashitu who gave Zesco’s backline a difficult time.
But it was Zesco who had the better opportunities with Idris Mbombo’s
shot going wide in the 24th minute while two minutes later David
Owino’s free kick was saved by Reagan Lulendo.
Zesco were calmed in the 45th minute when defender Fackson Kapumbu
fired in the ball from an acute angle near the corner flag with the
goal that would ultimately hand them the 3 points.
Nakambala had a great opportunity for an equalizer in the 58th minute
but Lameck Silwaba’s header went marginally wide.
Zesco were later in the 61st minute almost gifted a free goal by
Lulendo but the goalkeeper reacted quickly to deal with the back pass
to save Nakambala from conceding an embarrassing second goal.
Meanwhile, the victory is a massive lift for Zesco who head back home
on a high ahead of Sunday’s big Copperbelt derby showdown away at
Nkana in Week 4.
