Nchanga Rangers 3-1 to collect their first league win in four games.
The home victory at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola this rescheduled
Week 28 fixture came on the back of coach George Lwandamina’s sudden
resignation on November 7 and the team’s 3-2 home defeat at the hands
of Nkana just 24 hours earlier.
Wednesday also marked a bright start for interim coach Tenant Chembo
who took charge following Lwandamina’s departure who was his successor
in 2014 before dropping to the latter’s first assistant.
Idris Mbombo, John Chingandu and Jesse Were led Zesco’s fight back
after Nchanga stunned the home side with an early lead through the
clubs ex-striker Kabwe Chileshe in the 11th minute.
Mbombo settled Zesco’s nerves in the 31st minute with the equalizer to
see the two sides go level into the brea.
Chingandu put the defending champions in the driving seat in a second
half they dominated with a strike in the 47th minute.
Were made it goal number 15 for himself this season when he tapped in
defender David Owino’s free kick to seal a critical win in their title
defence after collecting two defeats and two defeats in the run-up to
Zesco rise to 54 points but stay fourth from 27 games with three
matches in hand and are 14 points adrift of leaders Zanaco who have
played 29 matches.
