Zlatko Krmpotic is delighted to see Zesco start in command of Group C in the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup at the end of match-day-one but says they Zesco must now guard their leadership.
Zesco stay top of Group C on 3 points tied with CRD Libolo of Angola following similar 1-0 home wins over Smouha of Egypt and Sudanese club Al Hilal Obied on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Libolo secured their home win in Calulo thanks to a stoppage time goal in the 90th minute from their Senegalese striker Mamadou Diawara.
Krmpotic’s side visits bottom placed Obied on match-day-two on May 24 seeking to stay in command of Group C.
“I think we are a better team to the ones that played on Sunday but stand by what I said before that Smouha remains favourites and our biggest threat in this group and that was a big win for us against them,” Krmpotic said.
“Now we have a chance to get one or three points in Sudan and finish this job but we should also win both our remaining home games.
“It is easy to say this but we must work hard and play good football to make it to the quarterfinals.”
Meanwhile, Zesco will prepare for the Obeid game with a league trip to City of Lusaka this Friday at Woodlands Stadiumin Lusaka before departure on Sunday for Khartoum for next Wednesday evening’s clash in Obied.
