Tenant Chembo has unveiled his 2018 plan and team in readiness for the Champions league and the local league, which kicks off on 10th February 2018.
Speaking to www.zescounitedfc.com in an interview at the Club secretariat, Chembo thanked Zesco Limited, the executive, the players and the supporters for the continued support in the 2017 season that was not easy.
“We had a difficult season last year and when I took over it was not easy. We encouraged the team to work hard, we made sure the spirit of togetherness, teamwork, hard work and unity of purpose return to the team and it did. At the end, we emerged champions in very competitive circumstances,” he said.
He thanked Zesco Limited management for the continued support that they have relentlessly given to the team.
“The support from the sponsors and the executive helped the team pull through hard times and we are forever grateful as a technical bench,” he said
Chembo said 2018 will not be an easy ride but the experience in the Champions league and a boost in the team will help achieve the targets set for the season.
He said there is need for the team to be disciplined, focused and realise that last year is gone and 2018 is a new season.
“We have a mammoth task ahead and we do not have to relax, we won the league last year and as at now that’s just on paper, we have to realise that the honeymoon and celebration of winning league is over. We are in the Champions League and we have made a record in continental football that we ourselves have to beat,” he said.

Chembo said this year the recruitment targeted at young players and stated that players that have been offloaded on the transfer market will be the named in due course.
“We targeted young blood so that we have the needed increase the team lifespan, rotation. The mixture of young blood and experienced players will help curb the fatigue that usually slows us down in the long. We have seen how the two young Burundians have fitted in and both of them have cemented places in the team,” he said.
He said the team will report for work on the 8th January and will go to Mongu for the traditional pre-season fitness camp before proceeding to South Africa.
“The team will report on the 8th January for medicals and we proceed to the usual base in Mongu on the 17th for a week, then go to South-Africa for 10 days and go to Zanzibar for the first leg of our Champions league game against JKU,” he said.
Chembo has called on the executive, players, supporters and all stakeholder to unite this season as that the only way results will be achieved.
