Zesco United CEO Justin Mumba says making the 2016 CAF Team of the Year Awards final shortlist shows they are among Africa’s best.
Zesco is vying for this years top club honour alongside 2016 CAF Champions League winners Mamelodi sundowns of South Africa and runners-up Zamalek from Egypt.
2016 CAF Confederation Cup champions TP  Mazembe from DR Congo and losing  finalists  MO Bejaia of  Algeria complete the shortlist.
Zesco is the only team not to have reached the final on this years shortlist.
“The nomination of Zesco by CAF shows that the club has grown and its performance in the CAF Champions League was very good and that showed that the club is among the top clubs in Africa,” Mumba said.
“The implementation of the club licensing has helped improve the management of the club and that has gone down to the team’s performance.
“As a club, we are happy to see our club nominated alongside the other four club’s.
“If you have noticed, we are the only club that didn’t make the final. We will continue to build on this success story.
“2016 has been a great year for the club. We missed out on retaining the league title but we won the Barclays Cup and went into the Champions League semifinals.
“Ending the league on number two was not bad at all as it has shown that we are going to play in the Confederation Cup next year.
“As a club we are happy with the performance of the team.”
Winner of the 2016 CAF Club of The Year award will be unveiled on January 5, 2017 during the CAF  Awards Gala to be held in Abuja, Nigeria.
