Zesco United battle Napsa Stars on Saturday in the 2017 Barclays Cup semifinals at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka to stay on course to defend their title.

This will be the two sides’ third meeting in the competition and they are pretty much even heading into their last four meeting.

Napsa beat Zesco 1-0 in the 2012 semifinals on their way to collecting their first and only Barclays title.

But Zesco avenged that bitter defeat by the same margin via the same scoreline in 2014 en route to their four Barclays Cup triumph.

And this will also be the two sides third competitive meeting in 2017 after Zesco won 2-1 at home in August after earlier losing 1-0 away in May in Lusaka.

Expectations are very high for Zesco to ensure they qualify for their sixth Barclays Cup final where they have not lost after reaching the final hurdle in the competitions’ ten year history.

But the spotlight will be on Zesco’s top scorer Jesse Were who has yet to break his duck in the competition with 17 goals in all competition for Zega this season the Kenyan international will be hungry to end his Barclays Cup drought.

Winner of this penultimate stage tie will face victor between Lusaka Dynamos and perennial Barclays Cup campaigners Zanaco who have taken part in each tournament but have never won it.
